I know that a lot of racers dont want to give away any secrets, and i should probably just figure this out on my own. But i was wondering if there is some technique that i am just not getting during starts. Last wera weekend at auto club speedway i started from the 3rd row in 3 races. After the start i was about 5 rows back. My front wheel will come off the ground very easily while guys go flying by me. Or i let the clutch out just enough for a little lift on the front tire and i still get smoked. Should i be starting in 2nd gear? Do i just need to work on my clutch release? Do i start with too high RPM (10000)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used to launch my R-6 at 14k and would have the same trouble, then Josh #702 feeled me in on his secret, launch at 10k..it worked! Probably a little to good from where he was setting..hehehe. Maybe you should try to drop your RPM's you have been trying to launch from. I have also went out to the drag strip a few times on my race bike...looked kinda funny taking a 600 to the drag strip, but it was for filming each time, anyway the drag strip will improve your launches without a doubt!

I go by sound but I do slip the clutch while I'm taking off. Working on drag starts is an awesome way to learn to get good starts. I dragraced a Honda CBX (straight 6 motorcycle) and it helped me alot

You should launch from your peak torque in first gear, it will very with each bike I launched my 04 zx6r between 8 and 9k and it worked pretty good. Come by the shop one day and we can talk about it. Marcus over at Trackoholics.
