If its for trackday, I run the Michelin PRC Front and a PR5 rear, I get most milage out of that set up. But when it comes to Race set up I use the PR3 rear for better side grip. The PR3 is good for 2-3 sprint races.

I have never used metzler's, but i have used pirelli's, and i heard they are similar. I tried the michelin PR series about a year ago and i have been hooked ever since. Extremely predictable and tons of grip on a 600. They seem to gradually loose their grip at the end of their life, so you will know that it is time to change tires before you get into trouble. Talk to Dale at racers edge performance(michelin race tire dealer)...awsome guy with good advice about tires.

My two cents....from my experience limited as it might be, Dunlop NTEC's are the best DOT race tires out there at this particular time. However, Dunlop have a new tire that will be used next year in the AMA superstock division. I just received a set and will be running them next week at Fontucky. Dunlop told me there as good as the NTEC's but a few bucks cheaper...$50 a set less to be exact.

I believe tires are everything...but of course at a good price. I've been running Racetec since they came out and been happy with them especially the price @ $365. It's a bit hard for me to try other brands when I have no complaints...why fix when it aint broke type of deal. If you know of someone that can match that price PLEASE let me know. My buddy swears on Michelins and makes me curious but when I put my money on it I need to make sure I'm going to be happy with it.

Am I missing out by holding a few bucks?

I don't know of any one that races on the metzler so when you start pushing your limits you might want a tire that will be there for you when you go in too hot a good tire that you might want to try is the bt-003 throught cyclesector.com they are in san diego and I believe they are 350 shipped
